On the island of Holbox, Mexico the fishermen still cast their nets from boats like this. I wanted to capture this moment as I don't know how long this kind of fishing will last. He seemed so content floating out in the beautiful turquoise waters and definitely not alone. I primed my gesso board with an acrylic medium then run mark making instruments through it to create texture. Once dry I paint over it in oil. This layer creates an undercurrent and energy that brings a new sensation to my work.I trust the viewer will sense this.
