This one a big studio piece based on a plein air done many years ago. When I paint in the field, I like to sit low (if not directly on the ground) to better read the myriad of colors and textures in the foreground. In this studio piece, I played the foreground very candidly referring a bit to Henri Rousseau approach. My focus was on the dead ferns with their unique red-bronze color echoing perfectly with the last green leaves of the season.
