Rising Tide - Mystic Beach

I’ve always been inspired by the changing moods and character of Mystic Beach and the grandeur of that sandstone cliff. However, instead of painting the cliff in its entirety, I chose to focus on the atmospheric mood and light that gives this place it’s dramatic appeal. I used a tight, geometric impressionistic style to try capture both a realistic representation of Mystic Beach and its emotional impact for the viewer. Using thousands of small brush strokes of pure, precisely mixed color I strove to create the illusion of light and form. The tight application of the strokes were used to imply detail, lending an air of realism to this piece.
