Friendship. It is one of the hardest things in the world to define. It’s not an object they teach you in school.
When I was very young, I used to think that friends were the people you could laugh with, chitchat, and talk to. Now I perceive friends are more than that. Friends are people that touch your heart. They’re the people you can share secrets with, cry with, or just have fun with, people who accept you as you are. They believe in you, challenge you, inspire and encourage you, convince you you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
… however…not everyone of them is your friend. Just because they hang around you and laugh with you doesn’t mean they are your friends. People can set a false face well. Actual situations in everyday life disclose them as fake friends. They’re like shadows, following you in the sunlight but drop you in the dark.
Like Mark Twain said: “Keep away from those who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but great people make you believe that you too can become great.”
In Friendship it does not matter that you are different, that your style is not like theirs or that you see a lot of things differently. Despite the differences things work wonderfully together and we can learn a lot from each other.
