Rite of Motherhood is a trompe l'oeil oil painting I completed when I adopted my two children. It was inspired by a doodle they left in my sketchbook, a note my husband had left for me, and a sheet of paper I had saved from when I was teaching them how to write in cursive.
My daughter had started writing mom over and over again until she felt she had gotten it right and presented it to me with such pride that I wanted to preserve the moment forever.
