Wet Bikes in Charleston
This piece was painted from two different reference photos taken on the same street and same day in Charleston SC.. Ironically I was there for a plein-air event but the wind was too brutal to manage so I painted it in my hotel room running outside every twenty minutes to check my work. The bikes were parked right outside my hotel room, I believe on King street. There are several art galleries in this painting as well.
The whole city felt a little wonky. Maybe it was the wind and rain, maybe it was because COVID was just breaking out but I felt I need to paint the painting that way. The fact that there was nobody on the streets added to this. The bikes were already a cool funky but I skewed the buildings just a little bit to add to this feeling I had about the scene and the mood I was feeling about the city.
