Warm Glow on a Chilly Day
This is a plein-air piece completed in the studio as my fingers were too cold to finish on sight. What first drew me to this subject was the tree right up against the barn and the fact that the building was not built on level ground and I love to paint old wonky stuff! I drive by it regularly and one day I caught a glimpse of it in the sunset as I drove by and came back the next day to capture it. It was so orange it looked like parts of it were on fire at times. I also loved the way it framed the woods that were glowing through the openings in the doorways. I payed particular attention to my color notes on sight as I knew my photograph would not capture what I was seeing. Of course the photos didn't even come close. This could only be painted.
